Hi guys....
We here at SLFreebie Hunters had planned to bring you the Make Him Over Hunt 6, despite our disagreement with how the current hunt group came to be. We support all-male hunts, and think that since the guys get shafted so often on hunts, attention should be given to those hunts that cater to the SL male population regardless of WHO is coordinating the hunt. To that end, we covered the MHO5 hunt last time around.
This time, however, I was kicked out of the MHO group without a word of warning or explanation by the group owner. Considering I had not spoken in the group whatsoever, nor had I had any contact with anyone running the group and had not, in fact, joined the group until the hunt started so that I could do the hunt - I can only conclude that they do not want to be included in our blog, nor receive the exposure for their vendors our readers provide.
Therefore, if you are interested in MHO6, so sorry, but no - we are not covering them whatsoever. My apologies to the store owners and hunters who enjoy using our blog as a resource in the hunt community, but I see no reason to give my time or energy to something when this is the response from the coordinators.
~ Shadowed Luik
Edit added 7/27/2011: My edit grew almost as long as the original post and has been moved to its own entry in the blog. ~SL
Traveling through the Second Life grid in search of free items and fantastic deals.
Welcome!
Hi there and welcome to Freebie Hunters! One of our favorite pastimes in Second Life is scouting the grid for fantastic hunts, sales, events and gifts from all the wonderful creators. We thought we'd share the wealth and showcase some of our finds in this blog, with an emphasis on the goodies available in various SL events and hunts. We do our best to show ALL items from a hunt/event and in the manner the creator intended, but this is not always possible.
***UPDATE August, 2018- We are still finding freebie/nearly free items to share with you, but due to RL time constraints, a lot of what we find is being posted solely on Flickr. If you would like to follow the events being posted there, here is a link to the album page for our account: Flickr Albums. These are not blog posts, but simply pictures of the gifts available. Thank you!
Thank You to all of the creators!
actualy the MHO6 ITEMS are not worth to put here,,so far i found many items that sucks,,for me it is such a waste of time,,more over the items were hidden in very psychopathic pattern!!!!
ReplyDeletei am sure whoever will play it will face that..one more word...."it doesn't worth to waste your time and it doesn't worth to be put here in this blog
Ugh. Whatever that drama/nonsense is about, it's a huge drag.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is such a great resource! Hunts can take a lot of time, and there are tons of them, so getting a peek at the gifts and bit of commentary about how easy/hard it was is a HUGE help in deciding whether to take one on.
I was looking forward to the Make Him Over Hunt as well. Having second thoughts about that now.
How about the Seasons Hunt instead - have you tried that one?
I am not sure if I want to do this hunt anymore. While we are hunting, we dont have to get all prizes and this doesnt mean that they are ugly or cheap (even they are sometimes). For example my friend like poses, I like clothes. So this blog is necessary and good for every hunter. We love and thank these bloggers. Owners and hunt staffs shouldnt scare from this blog also..:)
ReplyDeleteWell, I for one appreciate your blog. Being a homeless avi, I have no need for the various home goods that some shops put out, and I have found your blog to be very helpful in skipping those.
ReplyDeleteWith that said, its the loss of the organizers of the MHO6 hunt. I personally, will not be doing the hunt based on their treatment of you.
There are two ways to think of hunts: content creators are kind enough to give things to us for free, or throw low quality crap at us for some free advertisement at the expense of our time and, apparently as is now the trend, L$. Thank you for doing the MND and SnB hunts, otherwise I would have wasted a lot of L$ on stuff I would never use.
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame, because in the end it's the second party vendors participating in the hunt getting shafted, not the coordinators.
ReplyDeleteI'm tired of content creators acting hostile towards hunters. We are the people who spend money at their stores, and wear their content around the world and we give landmarks to people, when people admire the things we are wearing, or our homes on SL, etc. The content creators and store owners need to lighten up and stop being so uptight and unpleasant about the hunts. I am a bit tired of some of the attitudes I see in the comments from the creators on the hunt groups. They punish "everyone" when they start taking a heavy handed approach. How can that be good for business. I spend approximately 60 U.S. dollars a month to shop on Sl for anything that strikes my eye. And I'm in stores on SL a lot, and often when hunting. I discover new stores that way. When they removed you from their group, that means I have a bad feeling about MHO6 hunt. That hurts those creators in the hunt if you think about it. Potential shoppers aren't going to their stores now.
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame considering the last MHO hunt was panned by many as not worth the time as far as the quality of gifts. Heck, even the wall of group gifts at the headquarters were only so-so at best mostly. Without visual confirmation of what I'm getting into, I wouldn't waste my time on this hunt after that and after how they treated you. No matter that guys' freebies are rare anyway. You're better off without them, so no worries.
ReplyDeletehmm - while I appreciate that people want visuals of what they are getting, I feel like I have to add the comment that in EVERY hunt, there are items you like more than others, thats just human nature. One of the tenants of starting this blog was that we would show ALL the gifts, not just the ones we liked, because you never know what might appeal to someone else and also because a lot of the vendors work hard on every gift. I know, as a vendor, my gifts have improved over time as my skills have improved, and that is something to keep in mine - designers have to start somewhere.
ReplyDeleteAlso - the wall of group gifts, I wasnt aware that MHO had that, I thought that was unique to MenStuff, which is an entirely different hunt and different set of coordinators and participating vendors. MenStuff and MHO are completely separate and shouldn't be confused for one another aside from the similarity in both being male-focused hunts.
Cheers! =)
please do the Seasons Hunt! =D PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
ReplyDeletelol
I have and will be visiting stores I am faithful to that have chosen to participate in MHO this round but this act has deffinatly assured I do not want to put my time into a hunt that would remove one of the excellent bloggers of SL ~ Especially without any notice or apparent reasoning for doing so. I do check in to sneak a peak at what I can expect to find on current hunts to plan which ones I have time to do. Ive found a few hunts I would not have known about otherwise as well and thank all the bloggers here for time spent and the great work you've done providing the pics and info that you have. We hunters appriciate you very much. :)
ReplyDeleteI would also like to add my two cents worth and say that I really appreciate the time and effort that goes into this blog for us. There have been several hunts that I had not planned on doing because the theme didn't really "grab" me, but upon seeing some of the hunt items featured here, I decided to do them and found great stores. You really provide a vital service to vendors in SL and I hope you don't get discouraged. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate this blog too. Through it I've found stores that I patronize beyond the hunt items I see posted here. But if the organizers of the MHO hunt are going to behave like jackasses and exclude you, I'm not going to do the hunt his time. The store owners who might otherwise get my paying business are going to have to do without it. So store owners take notice -- if you associate yourselves with arrogant, foolish hunt organizers you actually lose business.
ReplyDeleteARgh, lost a whole post. To you guys who do the blog, you save us tons of time. Your idea of posting every item is awesome and I've found many stores in the last few months because I didn't have time to do 8 hunts and instead chose one I liked from your blog.
ReplyDeleteTo the vendors, honestly, everything you do shows people what kind of "business person" you are. I hear folks say "we're running a real business, this is REAL", well if it is some of you are REALLY bad at it. Honestly, if Sears treated folks like this they would be closed down. I'm willing to see your business as a real one as soon as you act with business sense. Alienating every potential customer that walks in your door is NOT good business sense. Yeah, some are swinging by for a freebie, but some are folks like Chris and me, interested in new stores and willing to come back and spend the money. I've bought quilts out of pickup trucks from people with more professionalism.
If you don't like how hunts are, please, don't participate. I buy from many stores who don't, it has no effect on my willingness to shop at your store. But if you ARE going to participate, do not play games and remember every one of us is a potential paying customer.
I think that ejecting a blogger from your group, without a single notecard to explane WHY you feel like doing this, is a very unpolite action, and defenately not fair, in any point of view.
ReplyDeleteMy oppinion guys is NOT if this hunt is a worthy one or not. That s a totally another topic. But through this, we have to "see" deeper ...
My kind regards
Zelda Galthie
Until/unless a reasonable explanation comes about I won't be blogging MHOH either. Freebie Hunters doesn't post hints or direct SLurls, like some others do, and doesn't "play favorites" with the hunt gifts by only showing a select few, which is why I don't understand why someone would NOT want to be featured here. It's good coverage without taking away from the hunt aspect.
ReplyDeleteI think the one who ejected this blogger should give an apology for not stating his reasons. I don't know if the reasons are sound or just plain petty. It was just flat out uncalled for. I would've loved to have seen MHO blogged to see what each store has to offer. There's a lot of stores that #1: Don't have anything I'm interested in or #2: Don't get a care what they give out and do regifts or crap gifts. I'd like to know what I'm getting as I'm getting them or before I go to the store so I know wether I should go and get the item or not.
ReplyDeleteI read this blog and think, where do they get the energy! I usually fall asleep in the middle of hunting! Anyway, my theory on why they kicked you out is that they know the to many of the prizes in the hunt were sub par and they simply didn't want people to see them before hand. Kind of like movies that don't allow early critic reviews because they know their movie is crap.
ReplyDeleteSears does not offer freebies. Maybe discounts but, not free stuff just for visiting the store. Everyone's time is just as precious as anyone elses. The hunters and the designers.
ReplyDeleteShadowed, you are always welcome in my store and in any hunt I organize or am a part of. I don't know or want to know any of the drama surrounding the current owner of MHOH, but it's left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, particularly with how various people are treated publicly by him.

In SL, once an item is made, there is no additional cost other than rent for the store. Real life items have considerable costs in both materials and labor. This is not to say that everything in SL should be free, but that there is an entirely different economic model at play. People buy things for a good number of reasons, but mostly because the item was something which looked good and was seen as being something they could afford. Where this leaves hunt gifts is this... It is an excellent way of getting people into a store to look at what else you make while giving them something of reasonable quality to provide an example of the quality of your other products. People wearing that item also promote the store. You cannot get this level of exposure for most stores anywhere else. Search is almost useless since many stores spoof their traffic or include keywords for things they don't carry. Classifieds don't work because nobody ever looks at them. Aside from already having a large customer base, hunts are an invaluable way to get almost free exposure and traffic, but is quickly undone by bad coordinators or stores which take hours to find the item so that you can get the landmark to the next location.
Wandering around a store for 40 mins may bring the traffic, but won't bring repeat customers since they've seen everything you have and have associated it with frustration and disgust. It is blogs like this that help users know what they're getting into with a hunt and to see if that store is something they really want to give that traffic or exposure for in favor of ones they might like better.
You're right, time is precious for everyone, and as such it is a choice where one wishes to spend it. This is why some places, like Epic Toys are so much more fun to hunt than some others who stop just short of making the hunt item invisible and inside a wall surrounded by decoys. Half the fun of a hunt is in seeing new places and figuring out well created clues.
Personally, even if I don't care for the item, or even the hunt, I'm more likely to browse through gifts for new developers to check out, so a blog like this has been great for finding more than a few diamonds in the rough.
I've noticed something.. Why would a blog by the hunt's host be bashing other hunts? It's not about who bashes who or who's better than what.. We're all to do one thing.. Give everyone enjoyment..
ReplyDeleteStop making drama old bitch! no one cares about your blog!!! End Point
ReplyDeleteWhat if the ejection was just a misunderstanding or mistake? You didn't even bother talking to the person who did it and you came in the conclusion that he/she did it on purpose. Why do you quit blogging the hunt and hurting your blog followers just by a personal thing? This doesn't make me happy at all. You should blog the hunt regardless and clarify the situation with who took you off the group, not just doing things out of anger. Think about it.
ReplyDeleteI love you guys! :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, the make him over group is notoriously idiotic. I can't believe they randomly kicked you out, and I do not blame you for not posting them. Thank you so much for always posting all these hunts, you know you're amazing and we love you. <3
Response to July 23, 2011 7:59am, posted by "VZ": I allowed this post through to illustrate the kind of person you are for those you havent have the distinct displeasure of actually dealing with you. Stooping to name-calling says a lot about your personality, and the fact that you felt the need to come post something here tells me that you do, in fact, care. Otherwise, you would just ignore the blog the same way the blog intends to ignore you and all of your future hunts. No further comments from you will be posted here.
ReplyDeleteRandomly kicked? I doubt it based on what I've seen.. I've peeked at his blog.. Well known? I've never heard of "VZ" until this MHO hunt.. Respected? After such a post like that above? A respectable individual wouldn't stoop to such a low level.
ReplyDeletevz go and fucking kill yourself irl! it's a shame you don't show some of this attitude irl, then someone would do the job for ya.. BUT HEY YOU DON'T GET OUT MUCH DO YA??
ReplyDeleteIf every stops talking about this twat, blogging about this twat and generally pandering to his insults and trying to reason with him, and just IGNORE HIM ALTOGETHER, HIS MEMORY WILL JUST FADE INTO OBLIVION... LIKE THE STALE FART THAT HE IS.
Shadowed love your blog, always have, respect your reasons not to blog this.
This blog is amazing. Helps me to decided what hunts to do. I hope you will not get discouraged because of some jackasses decision to remove you form his group. Its his lost in the end. :D
ReplyDeleteAnd Wow seeing how the owner of the hunt responds tells me that I don't even want to waste my time on anything organized/created/advertised/etc.. by him. Way to show the community what a real dbag lays behind the MHOHunts. Hell the coward doesn't even allow comments on his own blog. Afraid of people retaliating and giving you the same shit you gave Shadowed? Coward.
VZ himself is a liar, a thief and a hypocrite. And rather that building himself up as something bigger than he is and making petty insults, what he should do is just chill. Or better yet, do the world a favor by tossing his computer off a cliff then slapping his mother for giving birth to him!
ReplyDeleteI personally do not understand that the designers have against hunters if we are then free for them as models to the case because if we do not let them pay us to show further that because his clothes are some shops and got gift see the quality of their products and then later decide whether to buy products there.
ReplyDeleteMHO group is famous for being run by self-obsessed brainless control freaks... won't name anyone... but her shape shop is beyond shit, and I caught her the other day voicing about her sexual wonders on local chat. Classy. Truly. Why is everyone so surprised? Pass me the bucket.
ReplyDeleteAhhh i wouldn't worry too much bout being kicked from the MHOH cause it's just full of shit prizes anyway for the most part. Also it isn't even the original person that started the MHOH at all it's someone else who in my opinion stole the name too get it's already large following when the original person stopped organising the hunt. So i'd just brush it off and move onto the next hunts.
ReplyDeleteMHOH6 gifts are worthless!!!
ReplyDeleteMHOH has been full of poorly made prizes since the second one, where half the prizes were just thinly veiled adverts for their stores (store logos plastered all over the products so that they weren't wearable) or the items were outshined by linden newbie outfits. They had an awesome idea for the first one, and then didn't bother with quality control. I'm not surprised they kicked you. After seeing you show their last few hunts, I didn't go to a single location because the items weren't worth the time to teleport there. And a lot of the shop keepers are rude unless you buy something. There are diamonds in that list, to be sure (Sredni for one =P ) but yeah...
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't worry too much about Vic Zuzu. One only needs to read his blog to see that among being extremely unpopular and having to post multiple times about his many run ins with residents in Sl, he cannot even compose a proper sentence. His SL profile indicates he graduated from the "economical department" and speaks English. His posts, grammar, spelling, and all around word usage, indicate otherwise. These are not English as a second, third, or fourth language mistakes. Not for a college graduate. Seems to cry out uneducated, lonely internet troll lashing out for whatever attention it can get. In his world, we are all out to get him and spread vicious lies. In reality, he entered a virtual world with the chance to be anything and everything he wanted, and still ended up a turd.
ReplyDeleteThis man you talk abouts is ber stupids. I not tink waste time with little child dat thinks he is the shits. No more shits prom he mouth anymores! Anyone can poot store on MHOH and he start to chow the prizes like you dids but only 5 or so nice stores but the rest es shits out of 167 listed stores! You no more cover MHOH, it shits anyways. BALAKSHITATAS! It mean Good Riddonce! Jes!
ReplyDeleteWell, today is the first day I discovered this blog. I love hunts, I love freebies, and I love to support quality content creators in SecondLife by spending my own linden dollars in their stores. I also now love this blog! Fair and impartial coverage of so many hunts can only help hunters and huntees alike. (is huntees even a word..??) I also like to find something good about Everyone, even VZ. Not just the bad: he's very young, very rude, very immature, very mean, very petty, very impulsive, very nasty, very vengeful, very spiteful, very dishonest and very poor in English which is not his first language. There are, I'm sure, LOTS of good things about him ... for example: on camera he looks good naked. And also ... he is .... ummm .... he's very .... hmmmm ... he always .... errrr ... well I'm sure he must have something else good about him ... let me get back to you on this one ... if I am able to figure out what his other good quality is.
ReplyDelete
